Mighty Youth Ministries is raising a generation that refuses to drift.

Founded in 2016 in Gulu by Team Leader Freddy Oryem, this grassroots movement began with a simple but urgent realization: too many young people were growing up without guidance, without role models, and without a clear sense of direction. What started as one pastor stepping into a community and choosing to walk alongside its youth has become a growing force of transformation across Gulu City and District.

“I saw how challenging life was for young people,” Freddy shares. “They didn’t have people to look up to. I wanted to support them and help shape their future.”

Spaces Where Young People Can Show Up Fully

Mighty Youth Ministries creates spaces where young people are seen, heard, and challenged to grow. Through biweekly fellowships, school outreaches, and community gatherings, youth engage in worship, mentorship, and honest conversations about life, relationships, health, and identity.

These are not passive gatherings. They are living, breathing environments where young people participate, ask questions, and even help shape the conversations. Topics that are often avoided - like relationships, sex, and personal struggles - are brought into the open with honesty and care. Here, curiosity is welcomed, and growth is expected.

Real Stories, Real Change

The impact is tangible and deeply personal.

After mentorship and guidance, several young people who had left school made the decision to return. Two girls re-enrolled in primary school. Boys who had stepped away from education found their way back with renewed focus. These are quiet but powerful moments that ripple outward - changing not just individual lives, but entire family trajectories.

In school outreaches, the team reaches hundreds of students at a time, creating space for conversations that shift mindsets and spark new possibilities.

Meeting Challenges Head-On

The challenges facing youth in Gulu are real - school dropout, teen pregnancy, addiction, and the pressure of negative influences. But Mighty Youth Ministries approaches these realities with clarity and conviction.

Rather than focusing on limitations, they call young people into leadership, integrity, and responsibility for their future. They meet youth where they are, walk with them consistently, and challenge them to take ownership of their lives.

A Team Committed to the Work

The organization is powered by a small but dedicated team. Freddy, alongside a group of committed volunteers, leads sessions, mentors youth, and facilitates discussions. Their work is deeply relational - built on trust, consistency, and presence.

Transformation here doesn’t happen in a single moment. It grows over time, through conversations, relationships, and everyday decisions.

Looking Ahead

Mighty Youth Ministries is setting its sights on reaching over 1,000 young people in the next five years. With deeper collaboration and expanded access to schools and community spaces, the team is preparing to grow its impact across Gulu.

“The main aspect is touching lives and impacting their futures,” Freddy says.
