Northern Uganda has stories that deserve to be told  -  by the people who live them. NUFA (Northern Uganda Filmmakers Association) exists to make that happen.

NUFA is the regional home for filmmakers across Northern Uganda, bringing together freelancers, production teams, and creatives working in camera, editing, acting, writing, costume, set design, and more. This isn’t just a group  -  it’s a movement to build a sustainable film ecosystem where local stories are created, owned, and celebrated.

The Problem They’re Solving

For years, filmmakers in Northern Uganda have faced:

  • limited access to training and equipment

  • isolation as freelancers working alone

  • weak distribution and visibility

  • a lack of local platforms for recognition

NUFA answers these challenges by building community, training, and opportunity  -  so storytellers can build careers without leaving their home region.

How NUFA Builds the Film Industry

NUFA’s work centers on:

  • hands-on training and workshops led by experienced filmmakers

  • professional guilds for specialization

  • access to equipment and production support

  • community screenings that spark dialogue and inspiration

  • networking opportunities that build real careers

The association operates across Acholi, Lango, West Nile, and Karamoja  -  expanding film access and opportunity across Northern Uganda.

Milestones That Matter

NUFA has already made major strides:

  • trained and empowered about 700 young people

  • delivered training across five districts

  • created a regional platform for film recognition

  • hosted community screenings that engage and inspire

NUFA is building a local film industry that is professional, sustainable, and proudly Northern.

The Road Ahead

NUFA’s vision is ambitious: to reach 10,000 people through screenings, workshops, and trainings  -  building a regional film hub where creatives can thrive.

They are addressing challenges like funding gaps, infrastructure limitations, and distribution barriers  -  and building the future anyway.

NUFA is proof that when communities come together, creativity becomes a force for transformation.

See what happens when leaders build together - follow their journey.
