Wokober Education Foundation: Building a Better World Through STEAM and Creativity

Wokober Education Foundation is on a mission to reshape learning in Northern Uganda by empowering children and young people to become creators, problem-solvers, and innovators - not just exam-takers. Founded in 2022, Wokober means “a better world,” and that belief is at the heart of everything they do.

Why Wokober Exists

Traditional education systems in Uganda often emphasize theory over practical learning, leaving students without opportunities to explore, experiment, or create. Wokober was created to challenge that reality - especially for learners in Acholi communities - by bringing hands-on STEAM learning into schools and communities through playful, real-world projects.

What Wokober Is Doing Today

Wokober delivers a range of learning experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence:

• School-based STEAM programs

• Holiday learning camps

• Innovation clubs

• Wokober Toy & Innovation Festival

• WonderBox STEAM Kits, developed with UC Berkeley, bringing hands-on learning into homes and classrooms

Their approach is rooted in local culture and real community needs - meaning learners are solving problems they actually face in daily life.

Wokober has already created impressive impact in a short time:

• 4 editions of the Wokober Toy & Innovation Festival

• Over 500 learners reached directly

• Over 20,000 people impacted indirectly through outreach and public showcases

• Innovation clubs established in schools

• A partnership MoU with the Gulu City Education Office

• A €5,000 EU Youth Empowerment Grant

• Development of Wokoverse, an AI-powered teacher assistant

These milestones show not only growth, but momentum - Wokober is becoming a major force in transforming education across Northern Uganda.
